English-language Turkish legal assistance through our Istanbul and Mersin offices. Bakırcı & Keskin Law Office assists international individuals, families and businesses with Turkish-law matters. Clients can explain their case in English or Turkish, have documents and deadlines reviewed, and agree the work to be undertaken before representation begins.
Clients can arrange in-person appointments at our Istanbul and Mersin offices. Matters in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and other provinces may be handled or coordinated through our Istanbul and Mersin offices, subject to jurisdiction, required attendance and the terms of the mandate. We do not claim additional branches outside Istanbul and Mersin.

How can an English-speaking lawyer help with a matter in Turkey?
Foreign clients commonly need a practical answer to three questions: which Turkish authority or court is competent, what evidence is needed, and what can lawfully be done through a representative. The answer differs for an immigration application, a lawsuit, a land-registry transaction and a company issue. A lawyer can assess the applicable Turkish statute, procedural deadlines, documents and possible routes; no result can be guaranteed.
We work on the legal question actually presented rather than treating every foreign-client enquiry as an immigration matter. For court proceedings, representation is governed by Turkish procedural law and an appropriate power of attorney. Some administrative or identity procedures require the individual’s own attendance or additional authorisation.
Legal services for English-speaking clients
- Residence and immigration: residence status, refusal and cancellation decisions, notices and administrative remedies. Read our Turkey residence permit guide.
- Work permits and international employment: employer-sponsored applications, changes of employer, extensions and lawful employment compliance under Law No. 6735. Read the work permit requirements guide.
- Turkish citizenship: identifying the correct route, preparing supporting records and reviewing administrative decisions under Law No. 5901. See our citizenship application-status guide.
- Property, inheritance and family: land-registry due diligence, estate and succession records, international divorce and associated Turkish proceedings.
- Business and disputes: Turkish contracts, company matters, debt recovery, enforcement and civil or commercial litigation.
Legal representation for people who live outside Türkiye
It is often possible to begin by sharing a brief non-sensitive case summary and copies of the relevant decisions, contracts or registry records. We first identify the competent authority, the earliest deadline and whether a Turkish power of attorney is needed. Where a foreign-executed document will be used in Turkey, notarisation, apostille or consular formalities and sworn translation may be required depending on the document and relevant international rules.
Physical attendance, local procedural steps and court or administrative jurisdiction are assessed for each file. A remote consultation does not automatically mean that an entire case can be completed remotely.
For province-specific background, use the English legal guides by Turkish province. These guides do not imply that the office has a branch in each province.

Practical guides for foreign clients
Read the relevant procedure before making an enquiry. For employment authorisation, start with the Turkey work permit requirements guide and our guide to independent work permits for foreign entrepreneurs. For immigration status, compare the short-term residence permit rules with the long-term residence requirements. These articles provide general information, not a determination of eligibility.
Legal matters beyond residence and employment
Foreign-client legal issues also include divorce and jurisdiction for foreign spouses, inheritance certificates for foreign heirs, and foreign ownership of Turkish companies. Each file requires a separate review of the competent authority, documents and deadlines.
What happens after your first enquiry?
- Brief review: describe the legal matter, relevant city or country, and date of the latest notice.
- Document check: the necessary decisions, agreements or permits are identified; sensitive documents should be sent only through an agreed suitable channel.
- Scope and authority: representation, fees, conflicts and any required power of attorney are clarified before work is accepted.
- Next steps: the applicable legal process and realistic procedural uncertainties are explained.
Official legal references
The principal legislation depends on the individual matter: International Labour Force Law No. 6735, Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, and Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901. Review amendments and implementing rules before taking legal action.
Frequently asked questions
Can I communicate with the office in English?
English and Turkish consultations are available. Whether a sworn interpreter or certified translation is required in an official procedure is a separate legal and procedural question.
Does the office have an Istanbul branch?
Yes. Bakırcı & Keskin Hukuk Bürosu has physical offices in Maslak/Sarıyer, Istanbul, and Akdeniz, Mersin. Türkiye-wide legal work is coordinated through the two offices, subject to procedural requirements.
Can you represent me while I am abroad?
Depending on the case, a lawyer may represent a client under a properly issued power of attorney. Personal-attendance requirements and jurisdiction must be checked first.
Does sending a message make me a client?
No. Sending a message or documents does not establish representation or suspend a procedural deadline. The professional engagement must first be agreed.
What should I send first?
Send a short description, the issue’s location and the date of any notice or deadline. Do not send passwords, identity numbers, banking credentials or medical information in an initial public message.
